Navid Social Development Organization (NSDO) was founded in 2011 by a team of highly educated and expert Afghan volunteers. It operates as a non-profit, non-sectarian, and non-political organization, officially registered with the Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan.

Commencing its operations with a focus on public health services for Afghan communities, NSDO has since expanded its thematic emphasis to include community development, health promotion, rehabilitation, education development, agricultural development, gender mainstreaming, policy research, and disaster risk reduction.
